Soft-Touch and Textured Gift-Box Wraps: Check the Corners and the Foil

A gift box with a strong colour does not automatically need pearl, texture and a large foil area as well. Try a quieter version first. Leave enough paper visible to understand what the surface contributes before adding more finishing.

Choose touch, texture and light separately

SOFTSKIN addresses soft touch; GRAINFORM addresses texture; HALO and CHROMA address pearlescence. PEARLSKIN is the direction for combining pearl with soft touch. These categories describe appearance and feel, not guaranteed rub, blocking or bonding performance.

For a Terracotta Clay and Olive Moss concept, start with one colour on the box and the other on a narrow sleeve. Then compare adding texture or touch to just one component. That makes it easier to see what each decision changes.

A flat sheet has not yet passed the corner test

Inspect the finished corners, turn the box over to review seams, and check the direction of any pattern. For a wrapped rigid box, the paper, adhesive, board and converting conditions need to be evaluated as a system. Grammage alone is not an explanation of the result.

Trial even a small logo at its actual size. Review line definition, foil adhesion and the interaction with the surface. The illustration marks places to inspect; it is not evidence that a grade has passed those checks.

Agree on use before agreeing on acceptance

Will the box be displayed in a store, packed tightly for shipping, or opened repeatedly? Describe the use before agreeing on tests and acceptance criteria. “Feels good” is not a performance result, and broad words such as “durable” need to be translated into specific requirements.

QiLi’s coating, surface-treatment and embossing work provides a starting point for this discussion. A recorded trial on the intended construction is more useful than an unconditional statement that a paper will work everywhere.
