Coated, Uncoated or Soft-Touch? Choose for the Image You Need to Print

Coated, Uncoated or Soft-Touch? Choose for the Image You Need to Print

A pleasant blank sheet is not enough to approve a product brochure. Pale transitions, dark detail and small type still have to work on the printed page. When choosing a white printing paper, open the artwork before debating which category sounds more premium.

Separate print-paper structure from tactile language

In QiLi’s structure, MONO covers white and black uncoated papers, while IMPRINT covers white coated or micro-coated printing papers. SOFTSKIN is the coloured soft-touch direction. A soft feel alone does not make these products interchangeable.

Our current natural-white and high-white papers discussed here use two coating passes and retain a subtle paper texture. Two passes describe the manufacturing sequence, not whether both sides are coated. The commercial term “super-feel” should not be treated as a universal technical specification.

Make the test file resemble the job

Use one representative file containing an actual product photograph, dark areas, pale transitions, fine lines and text at its final size. Keep the printing setup comparable and record any necessary adjustments. Otherwise, differences in the results cannot simply be assigned to the paper.

The value of the coating sequence should be judged in the work it produces for your job. Without a defined comparison and measurements, there is no basis for a percentage improvement in reproduction or a multiple of drying speed.

Let materials share the work

A Deep Navy outer box does not require a dark product-information card. Keep the box colour as a design anchor and compare natural-white and high-white printing papers for the detailed image inside.

After choosing the grade, include drying, stacking and finishing in the production trial. Review the unprinted sheet for its surface, the press sample for image and type, and the converted piece for use. None of those checks replaces the others.
