A new paper batch: reviewing the approved sample

QiLi Paper / VANGLAM

Reconcile colour, surface, critical artwork and the finished sample against one record before approving a new paper batch.

A new paper batch: reviewing the approved sample

The image is an editorial concept about record keeping, not an actual approved sample, batch comparison or quality-test record.

Start a batch review with identity, then assess the finished-product requirements. Match the grade, colour name, specification, side and batch information to the order and original approved sample. Identify the features that matter to the project: brand colour, surface lustre, fine type, folds or the relationship with adjacent components.

Distinguish colour from surface effect

PALETTE’s coloured uncoated surfaces and CHROMA’s coloured pearlescent effects differ. Even where colour names match, compare the actual materials under consistent viewing conditions. Keep the viewing angle comparable for optical effects. A photograph can record an observation; it cannot replace a physical colour assessment or create an unagreed colour-difference standard.

Check critical artwork and processes

Select the critical areas of the actual artwork for review. Where a logo, small type, dark image or fold is sensitive, discuss with the printer whether a relevant additional trial is needed. If the paper, surface, ink, foil or a major process changes, reassess the affected combination instead of extending the original approval automatically.

Keep the decision with the samples

Keep the basis of the decision with the samples. Identify the original approved sample and the new batch sample separately, recording their grade, batch, artwork revision, review conditions and outcome. Add measurement where the project requires it, with an agreed method and acceptance range. Do not invent a universal colour-difference limit for every series.

Maintain one shared reference

Should samples be retained after the previous batch printed successfully? Retain traceable batch samples and key records so the brand, designer and converter share one reference. Its notes on surface variation and proofing on the actual stock inform general practice, not tolerances, availability or performance promises for QiLi materials.
