Printing and converting

Why should heavy solids on embossed paper be proofed separately?

An embossed surface has peaks and valleys, so a smooth-sheet result does not predict coverage or edge quality in the low areas. Proof solids, hairlines, reverse type, gradients and image detail where the texture is strongest, and inspect multi-colour register. The result depends on the actual paper, imaging system, press and settings; approve the project from its own production proof.
